Al Luplow: (1939-2017)

Luplow, Alvin D. “Al” 3/13/1939 – 12/28/2017 Saginaw Twp., Michigan Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2017. He was 78 years old. Alvin David Luplow was born on March 13, 1939, in Saginaw to the late Alvin Edward and June Carla (Eisenhauer) Luplow. Al married Marlene Michalski on October 6, 1962. She survives him. Al graduated from St. Andrew High School in 1957. During his senior year, he earned All-American honors in football and was selected as the Outstanding Player in the State by sportswriters and coaches. Al attended Michigan State University where he played football and baseball for the Spartans.

In 1959, he signed a contract with the Cleveland Indians and fulfilled his childhood dream of playing professional baseball. He also played for the New York Mets and the Pittsburgh Pirates during his seven year major league career. Al was honored to be chosen as an inductee of the Inaugural Class of the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. After he retired from baseball, he worked as a real estate appraiser. Al also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing golf. Surviving besides his loving wife of 55 years, Marlene, are one son and two daughters: Brett (Christine) Luplow, Cindy (Bill) Trapp and Leann (Brian) Wilson; eight grandchildren: Anthony, Alex and Matthew Dils, MaryGrace Luplow, Cassie (Alex) Bultman, Andy Trapp, Jeff and Abby Wilson; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jack and Pari Michalski and Jane Luplow; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Al was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister-in-law: Doug, Don and Betty, Greg, and Rod Luplow. The Luplow family would like to thank Nancy Ames and her staff at Caretel Inns for the special care and support given to Al during his stay.

FUNERAL: Al was a man of deep faith and thankful for the gifts he received from God. A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Richard A. Bokinskie will officiate with cremation to follow the funeral Mass. VISITATION: The family will receive visitors at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday, January 1, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A Vigil service will be held on Monday at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
